Question by Svetlana1227: What secure sleep aid will work for me?
I am naturally prone to insomnia for the reason that of my active mind. In summer of ’08 I had the worst insomnia all summer running on 2 hours sleep a night. I was miserable, suicidial, and thinking I was going to die. After I pulled an all nighter for the 1st day of school, I never had it again. Now I’m noticing my sleep is obtaining worse once more since I don’t have a routine (I take college online). It takes me 1 to 2 hours to get to sleep, and I can live with that. The issue is I’m often waking up around 6am and I stay awake and restless for 2 hours after that trying to get back to sleep again. This is ruining plans with my friend mainly because he wants me to wake up early to go on a trip with him, but if my sleep cycle is interupted inside the middle of the night and if I didn’t get atleast 6 hours of sleep, I would stay in my bed until 2pm if I have to so I can get around 7 hours. So far I’ve been constantly taking Advil PM which helps me, but I don’t know if it's healthy to take it all of the time. So yesterday I thought it’ll be far better to try an herbal supplement (Melatonin 5mg) and it didn’t aid me at all. I took 2 hours to go to sleep and I woke up after 3.5 hours. I stayed up from there for 2 hours so I gave in and took the Advil PM and went to sleep again. I heard on the Dr. Oz show some folks just require to be put on permanent sleep aids and I believe I need to suck up the reality and accept I’m 1 of them. I can deal with taking longer to sleep than most, but it got to the point where it is controlling my life (not allowing me to make early trips with friends, staying in bed until late hours to get the recommended hours of sleep). What sleep aid is helpful and is secure to take constantly? For the record I briskly walk on the treadmill 30 minutes twice a day so I am not sedentary. I also never had caffiene or alcohol in my life. If anybody took the time to read this, please assist me!
